Ree Drummond's sweet and sour meatballs recipe is a delicious meal idea that was featured on an episode of her show about old-fashioned comfort foods. It's easy to see why this dish has remained a classic comfort go-to. 'The Pioneer Woman' star Ree Drummond | Tyler Essary/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank How to make Ree Drummond's sweet and sour sauce Drummond demonstrated how to make her sweet and sour meatballs recipe on an episode of The Pioneer Woman . "I'm going to start with the sauce, which I think is the best part of this dish," she explained. What Happens When We Give Animals Our Diseases? - Quanta Magazine

When scientists think about the movement of microbes between animal species, we generally focus on "spillover" events: when pathogens move from animals to humans. But pathogen transmission isn't a one-way street. Humans appear to have introduced SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes COVID-19 —into populations of wild deer , mink , captive gorillas , pet dogs and cats , and a variety of other species . This transfer of an infection from a human to an animal is colloquially referred to as a "spillback" of organisms. Such infections could have major consequences for the wild species, and for ours. What illnesses can we spread to animals? Viruses are perhaps the best-studied examples of spillback. For example, during the 2009 swine flu pandemic, caused by the H1N1 virus, a number of different animal species — including pigs and ferrets — were infected by humans. (We also likely spread influenza to pigs during the 1918 influenza pandemic , which was also caused by...

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, better known simply as the Bahamas, is a chain of islands spread out over 500 miles in the Atlantic Ocean. Tropical and laid-back, these Caribbean islands are a favorite for vacationers because they're easy to reach yet provide an experience far removed from the ordinary, thanks to turquoise waters, warm, salty breezes, and plenty of opportunities to learn how to enjoy life to the fullest from the locals. Freeport on Grand Bahama Island is located just 70 nautical miles off the east coast of Florida, and many Floridians boat there on a regular basis. For everyone else, however, it's just a quick flight away. Plan a trip to the Bahamas for your next getaway and you'll see that you don't have to travel far to feel like you've landed in paradise. © Provided by Travel + Leisure Courtesy of...

NEC X Announces Fifth AI Start-up to Graduate from its Corporate Accelerator Program - GlobeNewswire

TOKYO and PALO ALTO, Calif., April 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NEC Corporation, a leader in IT and network technologies, and NEC X, the innovation accelerator for NEC's emerging technologies, announced today that Beagle Technology is the fifth startup to graduate from the NEC X Corporate Accelerator Program (CAP). Beagle Technology has developed unique computer vision and robot control technologies, supported by NEC technology researchers, to automate pruning and shoot thinning of wine grapevines. The machine detects the height and depth of vines using computer vision. It then adjusts, locates clippers, and cuts vines at precise locations. This patent-pending solution replaces manual operation, provides improved accuracy and speed, and reduces cost by about 25% for pruning and 70% for shoot thinning. "Beagle Technology implemented an AI solution in an effort to address the decreasing labor force in the agriculture industry," said S...

How to Cook Sugar Snap Peas + 9 Snap Pea Recipes — The Mom 100 - The Mom 100

Image
What are Sugar Snap Peas? Sugar snap peas, also known as snap peas, are a variety of peas cultivated for their crisp exterior and sweet pea interior. Early varieties of the plant originated in Europe and Asia, though they eventually migrated to the US and have since become a beloved crop grown nationwide. This particular pea was cultivated in the 1970s as a perfect cross of snow and garden peas, with a refreshing blend of crunchy, and sweet. This legume lends a sweet and pleasantly "green" or vegetal flavor to dishes. When are Sugar Snap Peas in Season? Snap peas grow best in cooler environments with some moisture, meaning in the northeastern U.S., snap peas typically appear at farmers markets in late spring and early summer. Though usually not as abundant, these peas are also harvested in the fall, making them available around October as well. In slightly warmer parts of the U.S., snap peas are grown nearly year-round.
